Fifteenth Anniversary Fun

Stonehouse Stables celebrated fifteen years in business on May 1, 2011 with a fun-filled afternoon that included fabulous Ervin Best BBQ and other good eats, games and face-painting, a horseless horse show, feeding our guest of honor (Surf ‘n Sands) grated carrots and lots of attention, and wonderful fellowship with so many of you who came out to help us mark the occasion.  If you wondered how many peppermints were in the Mason Jar, the answer was 196!  Of course it was in 1996 that Stonehouse Stables was created by Mayes, Cheryl and Tara Mathews (now Tara Best).  The farm and facilities looked far different in 1996 and we had pictures on hand to prove it!  If you missed seeing them, check out the scrapbooks in the barn office and see just how far we have come!

It was a special treat to see friends from the past and especially to visit with John and Kathy Chambers and daughter Meredith, pictured below with Tara and Surfie.  They were on hand to witness the horseless horse show, capably judged by Laura Cornett with the help of Angie Phillips.  There was much prancing about and howls of laughter, especially when Tara had a hard time landing her jumps!  Funny how most of the horse names duplicated the actual horses the competitors usually ride for real.

Many thanks to our superb face painter Dizzy Callahan, who kept painting those cute upturned faces all afternoon!  While a horse theme was clearly present, we did see a few dogs, rainbows and other assorted pictures.  Carrie Cowardin won the oldest Stonehouse T-Shirt contest and won a new one in the process.

We dedicated the day to our Guest of Honor, Surf ‘N Sands, who is still working and teaching our youngest riders.  He looked great all braided and decked out in a special tri-color sash made by instructor Stephanie McCallister.  We are sure he thought he was at a horse show!

Our happy anniversary, came to an end when we devoured the entire celebratory cake.   A fitting end to a great day on the farm.  Thanks to so many families for coming out and making the day special by showing that our motto “Stonehouse Stables – where horses meet families” is alive and well.  Thanks also to our great staff who all worked so hard to make the grounds beautiful, keep the lessons, barn, and trails going, run the games, make and serve the food, pick up afterwards, and STILL be right there to enjoy the day.
